Samsung unveals new ‘humanfit’ wearables at IFA

Samsung C&T’s fashion unit will show off four new high-tech wearables on Friday at the Internationale Funkausstellung (International Radio Exhibition Berlin, or IFA), the company said.

Samsung C&T will introduce what it describes as “The Humanfit”? wearables that integrate fashion design and technology, clothing and accessories with information technology? and four new products to its platform: the Smart Suit, On Bag, Body Compass and Perfect Wallet.

“Wearable technology has emerged as a key topic of recent IT trade shows as the potential of the worldwide wearables market is rapidly growing,” said a Samsung C&T spokesperson. “Most wearables are usually in form of electronic devices, but Samsung C&T is presenting differentiated wearables in the form of fashion items, taking advantage of its experience in the fashion industry.”

An annual event in Berlin, Germany, IFA has become one of the world’s most important electronics and home appliance exhibitions taking every September.

Smart Suit is a recent Rogatis suit line, a Samsung C&T’s menswear brand. Rogatis’ Smart Suit 4.0 is on display at IFA. Unlike its previous versions which had a NFC tag attached inside one of the suit’s pockets, ‘Smart Suit 4.0’ has the technology embedded in a sleeve button. A mobile app manages the NFC tag in the suit, including features such as office mode, meeting mode and driving mode and a feature that transmits your e-business card to a designated smartphone. It will be available in the South Korean market this autumn.

The ‘On Bag’ is an IT-embedded purse with a built-in battery module. Its app comes with number of features, such as wireless smartphone charging, battery life monitoring and a find-my-phone function.

The battery module of ‘On Bag’ will be included in the 2015 Fall/Winter collection of ‘RAVENOVA’, Samsung C&T’s women’s accessories brand.

Body Compass is a bio-smart shirt that Samsung C&T and Samsung Electronics collaborated on. Body Compass is equipped with fitness tracking features, such as electrocardiogram and electromyogram sensors which track the user’s respiration and heart rate. It can suggest customized exercises in consideration of the user’s health status. The company claims it is both durable and has a comfortable fit, as it’s made of fabric sensors and elastic conductive fibers.

‘Perfect Wallet’ from MVIO, Samsung C&T’s menswear brand, MVIO’s wallets and card cases are equipped with a NFC tags which utilize various NFC functions through a mobile Application. ‘Perfect Wallet’ will soon be released in the South Korean market, starting from this Fall/Winter season.

“Humanfit reflects Samsung C&T’s corporate mission that it promotes hidden value to enrich people’s lifestyle with the convergence of fashion and technology,” the spokesperson said. “Samsung C&T plans to launch new fashion-led wearables, based on themes of mobility, fitness, and life wear, which enable users’ lives to be more advantageous and practical.”
